Republic Day 2025 celebrations are bringing significant changes to flight operations at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA). With over 1,300 flights operating daily, IGIA is one of the busiest airports in the world. However, in light of security and ceremonial needs, flight restrictions have been imposed during the Republic Day period.
The Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) has announced that from January 19, 2025, to January 26, 2025, no flights will land or take off between 10:20 AM and 12:45 PM each day. In addition to flight restrictions, several traffic and aerial guidelines have been issued. The Delhi Police has prohibited the operation of sub-conventional aerial platforms, including drones, paragliders, and quadcopters, over the national capital. This restriction, effective from January 18 to February 1, 2025, is a preventive measure to counter potential threats. A statement by the Delhi Police Commissioner highlighted that such platforms could be misused by anti-social elements or terrorists to jeopardise public safety and disrupt the celebrations.
This year's theme for Republic Day is ¡®Swarnim Bharat: Virasat aur Vikas,¡¯ showcasing India¡¯s rich cultural heritage and progressive development. The celebrations will also mark the 75th anniversary of India-Indonesia diplomatic relations, with the newly-elected Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto expected to be the chief guest.
