The national capital and the rest of the country were left shocked on Friday after the Rohini District court in Delhi became a murder scene.
Jitender Maan alias 'Gogi' one of the most notorious gangsters in Delhi was shot dead inside the courtroom.
He was shot at by two gunmen who had entered inside the court, dressed up as lawyers.
In an encounter that followed the shooting, the two assailants were shot dead by the Delhi Police. Though initially it was reported that three gunmen were killed, the cops later confirmed that there were two hitmen.
According to the police, the gunmen belonged to the Tillu gang, another notorious criminal group in the national capital.
Police said that Gogi and Tillu who were both behind bars had been at war for a long time.
Jitendra Mann alias Gogi, a resident of Alipore area of Delhi-Haryana border has been involved in Delhi's crime scene for nearly a decade.
He has been accused of several crimes including extortion, kidnapping for ransom, possession of illegal arms, carjacking, land grabbing and murder.
But before he took to crimes, Mann was a student, who excelled in sports.
He is said to have represented his school and Delhi University in Volleyball and athletics.
He was a student at Swami Shraddhanand College and Delhi University, where he also had his childhood friend, Sunil Maan, who is now known as Tillu Tajpuria for company.
The two were said to be very close friends and were even involved in student politics.
Things took a turn for the worst between them in 2008, in the DUSU elections when the two stood by different candidates.
Gogi then got involved in several local crimes and in 2013 joined hands with another upcoming criminal Kuldeep Fajja who he first met in College.
In the following years, there was a vacuum of sorts for the top gangster in Delhi following the killing of Neetu Dabodia by the police in 2013, and the arrest of Neeraj Bawana, in 2015.?
Gogi and Tillu who had become established criminals by then began competing for this post and it often was bloody.
The two gangs then fought it out, at times even on the streets of Delhi for the next few years, with fatalities on both sides.
In 2018 there was a gang war with the rival Tilu gang in Burari which claimed the lives of three people.
In March this year, Gogi's close confidant and childhood friend Monu Mann was killed by the Tillu gang.
Gogi's free run came to an end in March 2020 when he was arrested by the Special Cell in April, was involved in the killing of a Haryana-based singer, who was gunned down by assailants in Panipat in 2017.
Gogi was carrying a bounty of Rs seven lakh on his head.
Despite being behind the bars, Gogi allegedly continued his operations and was involved in crimes including extortion and kidnapping.
His close confidant Kuldeep Fazza, who was also arrested along with Gogi was later killed in an encounter with the Delhi Police.
Police believe that the Tillu gang had decided to eliminate Gogi for a long time and was waiting for a chance.
This came on Friday when a member of the Tillu gang was also to be presented in the Rohini Court.
When the police took Gogi inside the court, the two gang-men, dressed up as lawyers opened fire at Gogi, killing the 30-year-old on the spot.
The two gunmen, Rahul Tyagi and Jagdeep Jagga were shot dead inside the courtroom by the Delhi Police and a female lawyer was injured in the crossfire.
