Spanning genres, sounds and moods, Mumbai is all geared up for the third edition of Lollapalooza. Touted as the largest multi-genre music festival, it is back with a genre-defying lineup. From rock to rap, electronic to indie and everything in between, the line-up caters to every taste.
Spread across two days, the festival promises over 20 hours of foot-tapping music across 4 stages, with high-energy beats. And many artists are tailoring their set to match this energy.
¡°The setlist for Lollapalooza is more high-energy compared to what I¡¯d play in an intimate setting,¡± shares singer-songwriter Raghav Meattle.
He goes on to add that festivals do demand a ¡°certain dynamism¡± and it is imperative to keep the audience engaged, especially those who would have chanced upon it by accident.
¡°So, I¡¯ve focused on songs that are upbeat and have a strong live presence while still keeping the essence of my songwriting intact. It¡¯s all about finding the balance between giving people a reason to dance while staying authentic to my sound,¡± he adds.
While Raghav calls intimate house gigs one of the most rewarding parts of his journey, he is thrilled to share it with a 20-something audience at Lollapalooza who may not have heard him before.?
In fact Lollapalooza India 2025 is putting a spotlight on many new and cutting-edge acts. While Green Day and Louis Tomilson¡¯s debut in India has created a frenzy, the festival also features artists like Sahil Vasudeva.
From a banker in the US to a Western classical pianist, Vasudeva believes his music is a cinematic presentation of the piano. This includes electronic elements, synthesizers, beats and sound design.
At Lollapalooza he promises to present a one-of-its-kind production - a gigantic set design, dance, visuals, and theatre - an exclusive showcase for the festival.
¡°My attempt is going to be to make the younger crowd walk away feeling something and all the other elements - the set design, dance, visuals, theatre will make it very immersive, and engaging for them¡±
While he hopes to make his music more accessible, he is not worried about the short attention span usually associated with a younger audience.
¡°My tracks are sometimes 10 minutes long - and if you wish to tell a story and craft an experience it cannot be done in an Instagram reel format.¡±
However, Raghav believes that shorter attention spans do have an impact on music.
¡°It (social media) does influence composition in some ways¡ªsince attention spans are shorter, artists often think about how a song¡¯s hook or melody might resonate in a short-form video format. But at the same time, I try to stay true to my sound rather than chasing trends.¡±
