Heart attack cases are seeing an upward spiral across the globe. In India, around 30 million people are suffering from coronary artery disease. Heart attacks are often linked to obesity, hypertension, high cholesterol levels, and more, but don't be shocked if we say that slim people are also at a higher risk of heart attacks, according to a recent study.?
A recent study conducted by researchers from Harvard Medical School found that slim people might still be at risk of deadly heart attacks due to hidden pockets of fat in their muscles.?
While conducting the study, scientists compared this type of intramuscular fat to marbling in beef, which makes it juicy and flavourful.?
The study revealed that women with this type of fat were at higher risk of experiencing a lethal heart attack or heart failure, despite their low body mass index. Along with this, every one per cent rise in the amount of fat stored in muscles raises the risk of serious heart disease by 7 per cent.
Moreover, the study further stated that those with a higher amount of lean muscle had a lower risk of experiencing a heart attack.?
According to the researchers, any kind of fat accumulated under the skin does not raise the risk of any deadly heart condition except?intramuscular fat. Additionally, fat stored under the skin did not increase the risk of a heart attack.?
Researchers who conducted the study believe that for every 1 per cent increase in fatty muscle fraction, there is a 2 per cent higher risk of CMD and a 7 per cent higher risk of serious heart disease in the future.?
They added that those with higher amounts of fat accumulated in their muscles were more likely to have coronary microvascular dysfunction, which is a condition that affects the small blood vessels in the heart.?
