Imagine you are texting back and forth with someone on a dating application, and your partner asks you out, gives you two options for a date, which one would you choose??
First option being casually catching up for a drink after work, going for a walk in a park or just for an evening coffee. Second option suggests you dress up, they offer to pick you up, take you out for dinner, drinks and then you go to a club to dance the night away!?
If you are happy choosing the first option, let us tell you it is called ¡®Mundane Dating¡¯, and you are not alone.
Bumble, a popular dating app, reports the growing popularity of a new dating trend, Mundane Dating, with 74% of single Indians surveyed preferring more mundane encounters than fancy, lavish ones. This is more important for women (82%) than men (77%) in India.?
Dating app user Divya Sharma, a marketing professional based out of Faridabad feels stressful life is the reason. She says, ¡°Everybody¡¯s life is so busy and stressful these days, a normal date with minimal efforts feels so comforting. It can be a source of calmness. Meanwhile, an exclusive elaborate date might feel like a lot of work, and could bring that sense of pressure with it, which people these days are not looking for.¡±?
Rahul Sangwan, a Delhi based advocate echoes similar sentiments and says, ¡°A casual date because the beauty lies in the small gestures and simplicity of things. Any normal day date or any action by the other person that has personal significance attached to them would any day be more meaningful than the grand or elaborate dates/gestures. For instance, I would be happy if someone just got me a flower plucked/got by themselves on their own rather than ordering me a whole bouquet.¡±?

She also feels regular dates feel like an interview. She adds, ¡°A lot of times people don¡¯t know how to steer a conversation. And you might not necessarily hit it off. People wait to get drunk to make the date more fun. Well, you can just start with something fun. You can get to know so much about how a person is in a setting like that. And honestly, that¡¯s way more fun than just talking or watching a movie.¡±?
