Someone had to say it. We have always wondered how Bollywood celebrities or even general public take a stand about the most painful things and express their emotions through Instagram stories and posts. Soon after, we see them gleefully posing for pictures and going back to having a good time.?
Bollywood actor Gajrat Rao actually penned down, taking a sly dig at social media behaviour. Penning down his thoughts, Gajrat writes, "Dear Insta friends, a question has been bothering me since a few days. I often see people posting about painful and disturbing incidents happening around us on their handles. Naturally, the purpose of such posts is to express protest, release emotions, or convey their message to like-minded people. But after a few minutes or hours of posting such things, I notice people start posting other images... beautiful vacation photos, delicious food, and sometimes selfies taken with pride.Perhaps I've done this many times too."
Lashing out at active members of social media, Gajraj points out how we probably are failing as humans.
He continues, "This behavior really troubles me... When we post such things, do we distance ourselves so quickly from those painful news stories that we begin posting romanticized images? Or do we want to detach ourselves from what we posted?Or is our protest merely a token protest? What do you think?"
His post is obviously in regards to Kolkata doctor rape and murder case where the whole country is in shock. A few days before 78th Independence Day, this case alarmed India. All of 31-year-old female doctor as brutally raped and murdered at a hospital. Many women came to the forefront to protest and calling the country unsafe.?
We saw many Bollywood stars and A-listers coming together and asking if women are truly safe. Gajraj's questions should make us question about our integrity on how we slowly shift our focus on social media for mere followers and likes.?
