Every relationship begins with a honeymoon phase. The ‘honeymoon phase’ essentially refers to the beginning of the relationship where everything is blissful. Days are spent holding hands, planning exciting dates and having long conversations. However, this phase comes to an end sooner or later.

And once you believe it has, you start freaking out. And why wouldn't you? We’ve all heard about how relationships die without the excitement and sparks. But the thing is we start stressing out about keeping the excitement so much that, at times, we end up overdoing things. Jonathan Bennett, a relationship expert says, “If you can both have moments of boredom and still love and accept each other, it proves that your relationship is strong. It doesn’t require constant stimulation.”

Moreover, when you decide to put up even with the boredom, it gives you both a sense of security and comfort of being your true selves with each other. I mean, going out and spending the whole night dancing away is fun but it is when staying in bed on a Saturday night only to order food while watching an old film that you truly connect with each other and get to know each other even better. With this, comes security and comfort where you feel like you don’t have to try hard to please. Everything comes organically to you and being your true self with your partner becomes a possibility.

Psychologists from the US, Canada and Germany actually researched a bit about boredom and came to the conclusion that it isn’t always negative. The bored mind is actually a place that will help you reconnect with your partner and come closer emotionally. It will help you analyse your relationship and come up with solutions for any of the problems you might be facing as a couple.

And so, it might worry you that your relationship is losing the excitement but really, it isn’t a thing to worry about.

Boredom in a relationship is needed for you to feel more secure and comfortable because relationships aren’t just about having fun together. They’re about going through the boring times and still cherishing the fact that you have each other, even on a dull day.
