According to a LocalCircles survey, more than 40% of parents have reported a 30-50% increase in their children's school fees since the Covid pandemic. However, household incomes have not risen at the same rate. This has created financial difficulties for many parents, forcing them to use their savings to ensure their children receive a quality education.?
The survey discovered that in tier 1 and 2 cities, annual fees for good private schools now range from Rs 1 lakh to Rs 4 lakh, while in tier 3 and 4 cities, the range is Rs 50,000 to Rs 2 lakh.?
Regarding fee increases over the last two years, these are the findings:?
The report concluded that half of the surveyed parents stated that their children's school had increased fees by 30% or more over the past 2 years.?
Approximately 67% of surveyed parents expressed that their state government hasn't effectively controlled or limited excessive fee hikes by schools, with only 23% reporting otherwise.?
The report states that recognising the significance of quality education and the financial strain many households face, it's crucial for both central and state education boards to step in urgently.?
The report suggests that governments should implement effective measures to curb school fee increases and establish a reasonable cap of 5-10%.?
With household earnings typically growing at less than 10% annually, it's unsustainable for school fees to escalate by 15-25% per year, as many parents have experienced.?
The report had gathered responses from over 27,000 parents across 312 districts of India. Of these, 45% were from tier 1 cities, 24% from tier 2 cities, and 31% from tier 3, 4 areas, and rural districts.? ? ??
