'What's the point of working so hard?': Indian techie shares 3-year struggle to land a developer job
It's no secret that the job market for IT engineers is facing a significant downturn both in India and globally. A recent report highlighted a shocking backlog of 8,000 graduates waiting for placement across all 23 IITs, India's premier engineering institutes.?
To make matters worse, salary packages have taken a hit. Indian Forest Service Officer Gaurav Garg noted in March that the average salary for IIT graduates, excluding computer science, ranges between 10-12 lakh per annum, far from the dollar salary packages commonly heard of.
Amidst this challenging landscape, one Indian techie has taken to Reddit to share his own harrowing journey¡ªstruggling for over three years to land a job switch in this turbulent market.
The harsh reality of the job market for IT professionals is laid bare by this Redditor who's been battling to switch roles but his Automation QA (Quality Assurance) experience in the core Java ecosystem has been a barrier.

"Tired of struggling for over 3 years with over 3000+ companies trying to apply for full stack Java dev roles, because I was honest about my Automation QA experience in the core Java ecosystem (currently over 3.6 years of experience.) A dozen SELECTED companies rejected me due to lack of relevant experience, despite clearing their initial OA rounds and interviews. They also send lengthy hand-written 'sorry' emails and made 'sorry' phone calls too," he writes.
"I have 5 more months of 1 year bond left at current company but over 16 hours of daily work is badly not letting me upskill and damaging my morale. I don't know how long I can go on."? ?
The frustration is palpable as they question, "What is the point of working so hard with so many online resources, making projects, doing open source, grinding, DSA, etc, when everything eventually comes down to so-called relevant experience and previously paid salary? Most recruiters, HRs, etc don't care about anything else."
