Ahead of the Independence Day next month, Kashmir could see major infiltration bids, the intelligence agencies have warned.
According to intelligence inputs, some 327 Pakistan-trained terrorists are waiting across the Line of Control (LoC) to infiltrate into the Indian side.
Based on several intercepts it is estimated that Pakistan has activated 27 terrorist launch pads along the LoC on its side.
The agencies have warned of increased infiltration attempts ahead of Independence Day.?
According to intelligence agencies, infiltration attempts from across the border have been less compared to the previous year.
This year, only 35 terrorists have managed to sneak into the Indian side while it was around 60 last year.
Pakistan has been regularly violating the ceasefire along the LoC.
On Tuesday, Pakistan army resorted to heavy firing and mortar shelling in forward areas along the LoC in Poonch district.
The ceasefire was violated by Pakistan for the eighth consecutive day, officials said, adding that there have been more than 20 incidents of ceasefire violation by Pakistan troops in the last more than a week.
Pakistan troops had shelled forward areas of Mankote and Mendhar sectors of Poonch district and resorted to firing along the International Border (IB) in Hirangar sector of Kathua district on Monday resulting in injuries to an animal and damage to a house, they said.
Pakistani troops had shelled areas along the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, and Sunday last week as well as on Monday in Balakote, Subderbani, Nowshera, Qasba, Kirni, Mendhar, Mankote, Degwar, Krishnagati and Hiranagar sector of Kathua district.
Pakistan has been using the ceasefire violations as a cover to help the terrorists infiltrate into the Indian side.
Since the start of this year over a hundred terrorists including some top commanders and nearly a dozen Pakistanis have been killed by the Indian security forces across Kashmir.
According to reports, little over 150 terrorists are active in the valley and out of that 35-40 terrorists are operating in northern districts.
