In a bid to ply high-speed trains on Indian tracks, the Railways conducted the first trial run of Spanish train Talgo between Bareilly and Moradabad, in Uttar Pradesh.?
The journey began from Bareilly at 9:05 am, where nine Talgo coaches were hauled by a 4,500 HP diesel engine on a 90 km track. The speed of the train ranged between 80 to 115 km/hr and arrived at Moradabad station at 10:15 am.

The trial will continue on the same route till 12 June. The next phase of trial run will be conducted at Palwal-Mathura Rajdhani route at a maximum speed of 180 km/hr. It will continue till 40 days. These trials are expected to gauge the riding, safety and stability of the trains.
The Railways is expecting the Spanish Talgo train to cover the Delhi-Mumbai Rajdhani route in 12 hours as opposed to the current route time of 17 hours.

The test runs will not only ferry officials and sandbags onboard, but will also have empty coaches ply between the scheduled trial routes.
