Getting a good night's sleep is something that we all wish to have after a hectic day at work. But more often than not, this doesn't happen and we wake up tired, within a few hours.
While health experts say that an adult should sleep for 7-9 hours every day, a recent study has found that for more than 60 per cent of Indians, it is less than six hours.
A study by LocalCircles has found that an increasing number of Indians have problems getting uninterrupted for even 6 hours.
The survey found that among the participants, 61 per cent got less than six hours of uninterrupted sleep at night and 38 per cent got only four to six hours of continuous sleep, and 23 per cent said they slept up to 4 hours.
28 per cent of respondents said that they were getting ¡°6-8 hours¡± uninterrupted sleep at night while just 6 per cent stated ¡°8-10 hours¡± and only 5 per cent got to sleep over 10 hours.?
The study also suggested that there was a correlation between the pandemic and the disruption in sleep patterns of Indians.
26 per cent of the respondents said that their sleep quality ¡°has deteriorated¡± post-COVID, while for 59 per cent, their sleep pattern remained ¡°same as pre-pandemic¡±. 5 per cent respondents said that their sleep ¡°has improved¡± after COVID-19.
The biggest cause of sleep disruption according to the survey is the need to use washrooms at night.?
72 per cent of the participants in the survey said they had to use the washroom once or more during sleep time.
Going to bed late or having to wake up for household activities early morning was the reason for 43 per cent of the respondents not getting six hours of uninterrupted sleep.
Other factors like mosquitoes and external sounds also caused sleep disruption for many.
Children or partner-related interruptions along with mobile calls and messages also featured among the reasons why people couldn't get uninterrupted sleep.
