Some years ago, I walked into a chock-a-block football screening in my Manchester United jersey and an AAP?topi. With much horror, now I am beginning to realise why everyone looked at me with such pity and sorrow.
I voted for AAP - in all the elections since the party was launched - believing that maybe my fears are not true. Maybe this time, party leaders will stop the act and do some work. Even after he left Delhi in a crisis and left to go try his luck in Punjab elections, the wannabe-PM whose govt is running the capital got votes from me.
But now enough, Sir Ji is not getting my votes and not my attention. For a govt which has spent a huge amount of money on the publicity of programmes which are making a much-than-expected impact, the CM and his men are making too much noise in a very clear bid to NOT ANSWER REAL QUESTIONS ?that are being raised on corruption, nepotism and ilk.
If you didn't suspect EVM tampering when you won 67 of 70 assembly seats in the country, let's not assume such things when people of Delhi showed you that it's fed up.
Ok, enough ranting from a disenchanted AAP-supporter who wants the CM to stop the Tamasha and start governance. Let me go ahead and run you through the latest adventure by the AAP in their sanctum sanctorum - aka - the Delhi assembly.
There was nothing pit of the ordinary that BJP MLA Vijender Gupta was ejected from the house before the amazing tech-talk began.
Here's how the demonstration went about:
1. The AAP MLA used a 'dummy' machine used for demonstration. Not one actually used by the Election Commission. The authenticity of this expose took a grave hit there for yours' truly.
TOI
2. Then Bhardwaj reset the dummy EVM and demonstrated how the very same EVM, which had passed a mock test, can be manipulated during polling. Well, this was interesting, intriguing and a bit scary.
TOI
3. Even as polling proceeds, the person tampering EVMs, posing as a voter, can use secret codes to decide which party will win. The code theory is independent of number position of candidate. Manipulator can choose to tamper the pollining according to the booth.
TOI
4. Simulating polls by casting votes to?multiple candidates, Bhardwaj displayed how the manipulator enters the code and completely changes the vote share so far into the polls.
5. Here are the 'tampered' results to the fictional polling!
TOI
We are not saying that the EVM tampering can't be done, neither do we buy into the fact that the tampering has actually happened just because it was shown to be possible.?
What at least me, as a Delhite, want is that the party that we put into power stops doing these everyday soap opera on TV, giving fodder to more detractors to use in arguments that middle-class people can never run a government, and start governing.?
The demonstration looked more like a stand-up comedy event for which the tickets were bought only by friends and family. Why did the AAP need to do this demo in the assembly instead of a press-conference? well, only they know. What we know is that we lost the interest somewhere between the snickering of AAP comrades!
Dear Arvind Kejriwal, please get over your loss in Punjab, Goa and MCD and please start becoming the CM we voted for. We don't care about the alleged EVM tampering in the past that can't be rectified, the election commission has already suggested fixes for that but we care about governance and you're running out of time.
If you don't care about your citizens, picture this: if AAP loses Delhi too - your party and your 'PM dream' will be over for good.
