They say that success is the best revenge, and Mala Papalkar has been proving it every day of her life for the past 25 years.?Born blind, Mala grew up in a rehabilitation home, not knowing who her parents were. This is because she was abandoned by them and found in a dustbin at Jalgaon railway station in Maharashtra.?She grew up under the care of social worker Shankar Baba Papalkar in a home for the blind and deaf in Paratwada, Amravati.?
The 81-year-old, who devoted his life to the welfare and rehabilitation of?divyang?(differently-abled), orphaned, and destitute children and was awarded the Padma Shri this year, named the young girl Mala and also gave her his surname, Papalkar.

Like other blind and destitute children under the care of Papalkar, Mala started schooling in Braille. Supported by the National Federation of the Blind in Maharashtra (NFBM), Mala completed her high school and higher secondary education with flying colours.
A bright student, Mala went on to complete her graduation in 2018 from Amravati University and post-graduation in arts from Govt Vidarbha Institute of Science and Humanities.?

Mala continued to excel in her studies against the odds and, after two failed attempts, cleared the Maharashtra Public Service Commission (MPSC) Clerk 'Group C' Main Examination.
Mala said that she is delighted to have cleared the exam but will not stop here and will continue her efforts to clear the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) exam. "God sent angels to rescue me and take me to where I am today. I won't stop here. I will sit for the UPSC exams and become an IAS officer," Mala told The Times of India.
