The capital city of Karnataka has seen water logging in several parts owing to the heavy rains that has lashed the southern peninsula of India. The city roads turned into rivers and visuals emerged of rescuers using boats to evacuate stranded citizens.
These are desperate times for Bengaluru and these times call for desperate measures. The statement holds true for a group of cops who went out of their way to help residents of the city.?
A video has gone viral on Twitter where a group of traffic police officials is seen clearing the water-logged road at Bengaluru's Spice Garden, a neighbourhood in?Marathahalli.? ?
The official handle of the HAL Airport traffic police station has tweeted a video of the incident in which a cop can be seen clearing the choked drain out of a waterlogged part of a road to let the water pass through the drains using a wooden stick. In the video, another cop is seen clearing the garbage that is coming out of the drain at Spice Garden.
The cops' motive was to ease traffic movement on the busy road and allow seamless traffic to move towards Kundanahalli,?an eastern suburb of Bengaluru city.?
The caption reads, "Our officer Tukaram and staff Mr Jagdeesh, Adharsh, Sangamesh and Manjappa cleared the water logging in Spice Garden, now traffic movement is faster towards kundanahalli."
The video that has now gone viral on social media is being hailed by netizens. Many have praised the police officials for their spirit and many have criticised the?Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) officials for lack in action. Take a look.
Since June 1, Karnataka has received 820 mm of rainfall, affecting 27 districts and 187 villages, impacting a population of 29,967. News agency PTI said in a report on Tuesday that nine mm rainfall has been recorded in a 24-hour span affecting 20 villages in Ramanagara, Chamarajanagara and Mandya districts and impacting lives of 3,000 people.
