Suspecting that she was having another affair, a man from Bengaluru killed his girlfriend of six years by slitting her throat.
The incident took place in the Laggere area of Bengaluru on Friday.
The accused, identified as Prashanth, a native of Kanakapura, killed his girlfriend Navya, who was also from his hometown.
According to the police, the accused and the victim were distant relatives and had been in a relationship for six years.
Police said Prashanth killed Navya, who was a clerk in the internal security division of the state Police Department, on Friday, moments after celebrating her birthday.
Navya's 24th birthday was on Tuesday, April 11, but Prashanth was busy with work, so the couple decided to celebrate it on Friday.
After spending the whole day together, Prashanth also bought a birthday cake for his girlfriend. But immediately after the cake was cut and the birthday celebrations ended, he slit Navya's throat and killed her.
An FIR has been registered at the Rajagopalnagar police station and the accused has been arrested.
Police have sent the victim's body to Victoria Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
During the interrogation, Prashanth admitted to killing Navya and said that he suspected that she was having another affair.
The accused told the police that he was "upset" and grew suspicious about the victim as she was "chatting with other person". Both fought over the matter many times.?
