In view of the COVID-19 third wave fears, the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has said that the public celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi in Bengaluru will be restricted to three days.
According to the BBMP, there is also a prohibition on the procession during these days including on the 'visarjana' (the immersion of the idol in a water body).?
"Ganesha festival will not be allowed for more than three days in Bengaluru city. There should not be any procession while bringing the idol or during immersion," the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) Chief Commissioner Gaurav Gupta said.
He said the decision to have it for only three days was taken after inputs from the police that there were possibilities of large gatherings participating in the public celebrations.
Additionally, the civic body has made it clear that idol immersions will not be allowed in water bodies like lakes.
Instead, people are directed to carry out visarjan of the Ganesh idol in BBMP mobile tankers.
It has been specified that Ganesh idols of maximum 4 feet height are allowed at public places and those 2 feet tall at homes. The authorities will allow installation of only one Ganesh idol in a ward.
The authorities have also banned using idols made of plaster of paris as per the recommendations of the Pollution Control Board (PCB).
"Idols installed at homes should be immersed at home only or in our mobile tank. Ganeshas installed at public places should be of (a maximum of) four feet height and should be immersed in mobile tanks. We are also creating immersion tanks. We have also arrived at a decision to ban immersion of idols in lakes," Gupta said.
There is no permission for cultural, musical, dance, and DJ programmes in this period, and DJ sets and the use of mikes are banned.?
