The National Green Tribunal (NGT) has sought a step-by-step measures to clean Bengaluru's most polluted water body, focusing on removing silt, municipal solid waste, commercial waste and domestic waste.?

The NGT has directed various agencies like the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) and Karnataka Lake Conservation and Development Authority to work together and submit a revival plan by September 7.

Representing the Karnataka government, Additional Advocate General of Karnataka Aditya Sondhi said municipal solid waste and construction and demolition waste have been removed from the lake.?

According to official data, out of 480 million litres per day (MLD) of wastewater and sewage is discharged into the lake only 308 MLD is treated. Authorities also informed NGT that the sewage treatment plants are not equipped to treat the phosphorous released through detergent wastewater.

The environment watchdog had first taken note of the situation in February and had asked all industries along the lake to be shut down.
However not much have been done in this regard and many of the industries still continue to operate in the area.
