Chaos erupted in Punjab as a major incident was narrowly avoided when a goods train travelled driverless for approximately 70 kilometers.
According to officials, the train's driver failed to engage the handbrake before disembarking from the halted train at Pathankot station.?Consequently, the train began moving along the tracks, causing alarm among authorities.
This driverless train, transporting stones, traversed approximately five stations at a speed of 100 kilometers per hour before finally being brought to a halt in Uchi Bassi.
?"The train was stopped after a Railway official placed wood blocks on the tracks to stop the train," officials said."No causality was reported in the incident," officials said.
A widely circulated video on social media captures the alarming sight of the train speeding past a station at an exceptionally high speed, adding to the gravity of the situation.
Authorities have emphasised their commitment to investigating any potential safety oversights that may have contributed to this incident. "The exact reason of the incident is yet to be ascertained," they said.
A person who is responsible for driving trains and ensuring the proper maintenance of trains during transit is known as a Loco Pilot.
