A 30 year-old coronavirus patient, who is also facing attempt to murder charges, coudn't resist his alcohol addiction as he ran away from a COVID-19 hospital to grab himself a drink.
The convict was arrested on June 19 in Bangalore, for allegedly stabbing a friend, and was subjected to the COVID-19 test and his report came positive on Tuesday, following which he was immediately admitted to Victoria Hospital. As many as 18 policemen, his primary and secondary contacts, are already under quarantine.
The accused managed to escape from the hospital after he injured his hand in the ward and nurses took him out to treat his wound. He managed to push the nurses and security guard aside, and quickly ran out of the hospital.?
Later, the accused scaled the wall of Victoria Hospital and fled, TOI reported, Dr Smitha Segu, Nodal Officer at Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute, as saying.
Panic struck hospital authorities as the man fled. The hospital staff immediately informed VV Puram Police. Meanwhile, DJ Halli police also launched a hunt for the accused.
The police came to know that the patient had called one of his friends to come to KR Puram and buy him liquor. His friend knew that the accused was COVID infected and tipped off police.
As the accused reached Pushpanjali theatre, police alerted the ambulance and cordoned off the area. Later, the cops convinced the accused and he stepped into the ambulance.
The accused informed police he was addicted to alcohol and ran away to have a drink. Police have filed a case against the accused.
