Kerala logged 19,451 new positive cases and 105 COVID-19-related deaths on Saturday taking the tally to 36,51,089 and the death toll to 18,499.
State Health Minister Veena George said the state has tested 1,39,223 samples in the last 24 hours and the test positivity rate was 13.97 per cent.
Maharashtra on Saturday reported 5,787 new coronavirus positive cases and 134 fatalities, including the highest 45 in the Kolhapur region, taking the tally of infections to 63,87,863 and the toll to 1,34,909, a health department official said.
The state witnessed a marginal decrease in the COVID-19 cases and fatalities as compared to Friday when 6,686 infections and 158 fatalities were added.
Karnataka on Saturday logged 1,632 fresh COVID-19 cases and 25 deaths taking the total infections and fatalities to 29,28,033 and 36,958, the health department said.
There were 22,695 active cases in the state while the recovery of 1,612 patients took the total recoveries to 28,68,351.?
The cumulative number of COVID-19 vaccine doses administered in the country has crossed 54 crore, the Union health ministry said on Saturday. Nearly 52 lakh doses were administered on Saturday, according to a provisional report till 7 pm.
The ministry said 27,37,130 first doses and 6,07,591 second doses were administered to beneficiaries in the 18-44 age group on Saturday.
Mixing two different vaccines of COVID-19 is a very risky decision and it is must be discouraged, said Cyrus Poonawalla, chairman of Serum Institute of India (SII) on Friday. Briefing mediapersons , Poonawalla said.?
"I am against the mixing of vaccines. If mixing is done and results are not good then vaccine manufacturers will blame each other for results. First of all, the vaccine authority will never give full approval because it is a very risky decision and it is a waste of time. When one vaccine is working why should we mix it up and cause complications? We should completely discourage this."
