India has put the ball back in Canada's court after Canadian authorities alleged links between agents of the Indian government and members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang operating in the country. India on Thursday reminded Canada that the country has not acted on past requests to extradite Bishnoi gang members.
"They have taken no action so far, which relate to our core concerns. And, there is a political motive behind it, which you know... No action taken on our security concern," Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said on Thursday.
According to Jaiswal, there are a total of 26 pending extradition and provisional arrest requests with the Canadian side, with some as old as more than ten years.
Those India has sought to extradite from Canada include Bishnoi gang members and Khalistani terrorists.
"We have shared security-related information with the Canadian government regarding gang members, including members of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, and requested that they be arrested or due action be taken as per the law. So far, while we have exchanged and given this information, so far no action has been taken by the Canadian side on our request," Jaiswal said.
One of the most high-profile members of the Bishnoi gang India has sought to extradite from Canada is Satinderjit Singh, aka Goldy Brar.
The 30-year-old is said to be the de facto leader of the Bishnoi gang and calls the shots on its day-to-day operations in the absence of Lawrence Bishnoi, who is behind bars.
Born in Sri Muktsar Sahib district of Punjab as the son of a Punjab Police assistant sub-inspector, Brar, who moved to Canada in 2017 on a student visa, has been based there ever since. He is believed to have ordered the murder of Sidhu Moose Wala and many more high-profile assassinations by the Bishnoi gang.
Since 2022, there has been an Interpol Red Corner notice against Brar, who is also named among its top 25 most wanted fugitives by Canada's BOLO program.
