The Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) has issued a high-risk warning concerning multiple vulnerabilities in Google's Chrome Operating System.
According to CERT-In vulnerabilities have been identified in versions of Chrome OS before 114.0.5735.350 on the LTS channel.
These vulnerabilities, CRET-in said posed significant risks to users of Google Chrome OS, including hackers being able to access and remotely run running unauthorised codes on such devices.
¡°Multiple Vulnerabilities have been reported in Google Chrome OS which could be exploited by a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, gain elevated privileges, bypass security restrictions or cause denial of service conditions on the targeted system,¡± CERT-In said on its website, and termed the alert 'Critical'.
CERT-In pointed out that the vulnerability exists due to the Use after free in Side Panel Search and insufficient data validation in Extensions. A remote attacker could exploit these vulnerabilities by persuading a victim to visit a specially crafted web page.
"Successful exploitation of these vulnerabilities could allow a remote attacker to execute arbitrary code, bypass security restrictions or cause denial of service condition on the targeted system," it said.
CRET-in has recommended users update Chrome OS to version 114.0.5735.350 or later, as these updates contain important fixes for these issues.
ChromeOS is a Linux-based operating system developed and designed by Google. Unlike Windows or MacOS, ChromeOS uses a web-based interface.
It is light and can be used in laptops and tablets and doesn't require computing power like Windows or MacOS devices.
