The Indira Gandhi International Airport (IGIA) in Delhi has been adjudged the best airport in India and South Asia for 2023.
According to the international air transport rating organisation Skytrax, the IGI airport in the national capital?also moved up to the 36th position this year from 37th in 2022.
A release on Thursday said Delhi airport is the only Indian airport to feature on the prestigious list of top 50 airports worldwide since 2020.?
IGI was also ranked 5th among airports handling 50 to 60 million passengers globally.?
The Delhi International Airport Ltd (DIAL), a GMR Airports Infrastructure Ltd-led consortium, operates IGIA, the country's largest airport.?
In March 2022, IGI was also the world's second busiest airport regarding total seat capacity and frequency of domestic and international flights.
Even in 2020 and 2021, the airport emerged at the top among all Indian airports in handling domestic and international passenger traffic.?
Last year, the Delhi Airport officials said it was preparing to double its capacity by flying out 14 crore passengers a year before 2030.
The Skytrax World Airport Awards are based on the annual global airport customer satisfaction survey, which was done during the period from August 2022 to February 2023.?
The survey evaluated the customer experience across airport service and product key performance indicators from check-in, arrivals, transfers, shopping, security, and immigration through to departure at the gate, the release said.
Singapore, Doha, Tokyo, Seoul and Paris were the top-5 ranked airports in the world, according to Skytrax.
Another GMR-owned airport, the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad, is the second top-ranking Indian entry in the list.
Hyderabad is ranked 65th on the list, followed by the Kempegowda International Airport Bengaluru at 69th in the list of the top 100 airports in the world.
