National capital Delhi is now the worst COVID-19 affected city in India. On Wednesday Delhi recorded 3,788 new COVID-19 infections, taking the total number of cases so far to 70,390.Out of this, 26,588 are active, while 41,437 have recovered and 2,365 have died.?
In contrast, Mumbai which for nearly two months had the highest number of cases in India recorded 1,118 new cases in the last 24 hours, taking the total so far to 69,528.Also, 38 patients succumbed to the virus in Mumbai, taking the death toll to 3,962, as per the latest data provided by Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).?
As many as 2,434 patients were discharged on Wednesday and the number of recoveries in the Maximum City now stands at 37,010. There are a total of 28,653 active cases in the city at present.As far as other cities are concerned, Tamil Nadu's capital Chennai has the third-highest tally in India with 45,814 COVID-29 cases so far.?
Out of this, 18,677 are active cases, and 26,472 have recovered and 665 have succumbed to the infection.Ahmedabad has the fourth-highest number of COID-19 cases in India. As of Thursday morning, Ahmedabad had 19,601 COVID-19 cases including 3,388 active, 14,835 recoveries and 1,378 deaths.?
Earlier this month, the Delhi High Court observed that Delhi is heading towards becoming the 'corona capital' of the country.Since last six days, Delhi has recorded 3,402 cases on an average daily.With the new infections spiraling out of control for days now, the Delhi government has laid out an ambitious plan to conduct house-to-house screening in containment zones by June 30, and in the rest of the city by July 6.?
A serosurvey in the national capital will start from June 27 and should be completed by July 10. Under this survey, 20,000 tests are planned to be done across the city and people of all age groups.As per the new COVID-response plan, the an-PCR test will be conducted for highly suspicious cases in containment zones which test negative on Rapid Antigen Test.?
A day after urging the Lieutenant Governor Anil Baijal to scrap the new system requiring every COVID-19 patient to visit a government-run centre for clinical assessment, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia took up the matter with Home Minister Amit Shah.?
Last week, Baijal had issued an order making it mandatory for every new COVID-19 patient to undergo five-day institutional quarantine. It was later amended after opposition from the AAP government.Every coronavirus patient is now required to visit a care centre for clinical assessment to ascertain whether he requires hospitalisation or home isolation.? ? ?
