The Ghazipur landfill site in East Delhi, one of the biggest waste dumping sites in the national capital has once again proven how the region is sitting on a ticking time bomb.?

There was a major fire breakout at the landfill on Saturday once again causing panic among locals.
The fire was reported around 6 PM on Saturday by locals who spotted flames and smoke rising from the dumping site.

Five fire tenders were rushed to the sport and the blaze was brought under control.?
But even on Sunday morning smoke was seen rising from the site in east Delhi.?

According to fire officials, the blaze was caused by methane deposits at the same place where the landfill had collapsed a few days back.
The 45-m high landfill was shut down following an order by Lt. Governor Anil Baijal in the wake of the collapse incident last month in which two persons were killed.

Ever since the collapse the site is no longer used for dumping solid wastes.
It landfill site was saturated in 2002, and the civic body has been struggling to get the NGT clearance for an alternative.
