Delhi-Meerut Expressway: Commuters on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway have been facing major traffic congestion for the past 10 days due to ongoing repair work on the Ghazipur flyover. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has closed one lane on the left side of the expressway heading towards Meerut. It is causing long delays, especially during peak hours.
On Wednesday evening, a 4 km long traffic jam stretched from Ghazipur to Samspur Jagir, leaving drivers frustrated. Many commuters reported delays of over 45 minutes. It eventually makes travel difficult during the festive season.
Drivers complain that neither the NHAI nor the Delhi Traffic Police have made adequate arrangements to manage the situation. There are no warning signs placed before the repair site, causing confusion among drivers.?
?According to Arvind Kumar, Project Director, NHAI, the repair work was started with approval from the Delhi Police. and it is being carried out in a systematic manner. The repairs are necessary to prevent long-term damage to the flyover. NHAI has deployed security guards and workers at the site to help manage traffic, but congestion remains a major issue due to the high volume of vehicles.
The repair work is expected to be completed soon. Officials have stated that removing the stone barricades at night or during peak hours is not possible, as it could lead to accidents.
People stuck in traffic have shared some ideas to reduce the jam:
Even though the traffic jam is causing problems, NHAI says the repair work is necessary to keep the flyover safe and strong. Until the work is finished, commuters should plan their travel in advance and be ready for delays on the Delhi-Meerut Expressway.
