India has lodged a strong protest with Pakistan after a suspected drone was spotted near the Indian High Commission in Islamabad.
According to reports, India considered the incident as a breach of security and has taken up the issue strongly with the Pakistani authorities.
Though more details are unavailable, the development comes just a few days after the first-of-its-kind drone attack on the Indian Air Force (IAF) station at Jammu airport on June 27.
Two bombs were dropped from drones, causing minor injuries to two airmen. The first blast ripped off the roof of a single-storey building at the technical area of the Jammu airport manned by the IAF. The second one was on the ground. A cocktail of explosive material, including RDX, is believed to have been used.
The NIA, which has taken over the probe, is looking into all aspects including Pakistani links.
Jammu and Kashmir Police chief Dilbag Singh said on Friday said that the involvement of Pakistan in the drone attack cannot be ruled out as the Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), is strongly suspected to be behind it.
Singh said the use of armed drones by Pakistan-based terrorists is a ˇ°very serious threatˇ± to the security system and there was a need to have a relook at the security of vital places and persons.
"We have got very serious and strong suspicion that LeT is involved in this case.... Since LeT is involved and the outfit is run from Pakistan, so in a way Pakistan's involvement cannot be ruled out," the police chief said.
On Friday, a drone from Pakistan entered the Indian territory at the International Border in the Arnia area of Jammu district and after BSF jawans opened fire, it flew back into Pakistani territory, authorities said.
According to Indian security agencies, over 300 drones and unidentified flying objects have been sighted along the sensitive border with Pakistan post the 2019 abrogation of Article 370. There were 167 sightings of drones along the western front (largely Jammu and Punjab) in 2019, 77 last year and about 60 this year till now, as per the data.
On Tuesday, India has raised the issue at the UN General Assembly (UNGA).
Addressing the UNGA at the ˇ®Global scourge of terrorism: assessment of current threats and emerging trends for the new decadeˇŻ, Special Secretary (Internal Security), Ministry of Home Affairs in the Government of India, VSK Kaumudi?drew the global community's attention?to the new threat.
