The Election Commission of India on Saturday announced the poll dates for the Lok Sabha elections 2024. The Lok Sabha elections will be held in seven phases starting on April 19.
The second phase vote will be held on April 26 and third phase on May 7. The fourth phase will be May 13, followed by fifth phase on May 20 and sixth phase on May 25.
The last and seventh phase will be held on June 1.? The results of all the seven phases will be done on June 4.
In the first phase, 102 Lok Sabha seats across 21 states will go to the polling booths. In the second phase, voters in 89 seats across 13 states will vote.
In the third phase 94 seats in 12 states will vote in the fourth phase voting will be held in 96 seats in 10 states. 49 seats in eight states will vote in the fifth phase.
57 seats in seven states will vote in the sixth phase and another 57 constituencies in eight states will vote in the seventh phase.?
According to the ECI there are a total of 97 crore registered voters in India who are eligible to exercise their franchise in the Lok Sabha elections.
"We have 1.8 crore first-time voters and 19.47 crore voters between the age group of 20-29 years,"?Rajiv Kumar, Chief Election Commissioner of India said.
He also said that voters above the age of 85 will be given an option to vote from their homes.?
With the announcement of the 2024 Lok Sabha election schedule, the?Model Code of Conduct?has also come into effect and will be in place until the announcement of the results.
Earlier in 2019, Lok Sabha elections were held in seven phases from April 11 to May 19 and the results were declared on May 23.
In the 2019 polls, the BJP-led National Democratic (NDA) won a total of 303 seats. This year the party has set itself a target of achieving more than 400 seats in the Lok Sabha.
