The layoffs in the global tech industry show no signs of slowing down, despite cutting hundreds of thousands of jobs in many countries by some of the biggest companies in the world in the past few months.
Microsoft has conducted a third round of job cuts that impacted employees in roles related to supply chain, Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT).
The third wave of layoffs is part of the 10,000 job cuts announced by Microsoft earlier this year.
Job cuts were across various levels, functions, teams and geographies.
One of the laid-off employees was Vandan Kaushik, an Indian techie who worked at Microsoft as a senior product manager.
He took to LinkedIn to share his experience of being laid off and seeking help to find a new job.
"Like many of my colleagues, me and my team had a tough start to the week. My entire team was eliminated as part of Microsoft layoffs this week," Kaushik wrote.
According to him, while it did not come as a surprise, it was still difficult.
"Although I had prepared for the possibility, hearing the news was still difficult. After eight years my time at Microsoft has come to an abrupt end, but it has been extremely rewarding," he wrote.
Kaushik also thanked Microsoft and his colleagues who gave him the opportunities.?
"I have thoroughly enjoyed my ride where I got the opportunity to work on multiple challenging domains and have grown both professionally and personally. I cannot express how much love and gratitude I feel for being part of this company," he said.
Like many laid-off tech employees, Kaushik also sought help from friends and colleagues to find a new job.
"Over the coming days, I will focus on determining my next steps. I plan to pursue things that I have been putting off and improve my skills. If you know of any Technical Product Owner roles available, please let me know," he stated.
Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella announced in January?that the company will be "making changes that will result in the reduction of our overall workforce by 10,000 jobs through the end of FY23 Q3".
Microsoft currently has more than 220,000 employees, and layoffs affected around 5 per cent of its workforce.
