With layoffs occurring across the board, from giants like Google and Tesla to domestic firms like Paytm, job security has become increasingly uncertain. Amid this wave of uncertainty, one woman, who has faced layoffs three times, is now sharing her insights, claiming she has "cracked the code" to successful job applications.
34-year-old Giovanna Ventola from Charleston, South Carolina, knows the struggle of job hunting all too well, having been laid off three times in three years. Now, she's discovered a life-changing job application hack.
In a viral video with 1.8 million views, Ventola explains the best way to structure your week if you're job hunting: "power apply" to jobs on Monday and revisit postings on Friday.
Speaking to Newsweek, she said, "The job market has drastically changed since COVID, and this last layoff has been the hardest. It took a huge toll on my mental health, so I decided to take control of my job search."
Ventola turned to TikTok to share her experiences and connect with others in similar situations. In March 2024, she founded a professional Slack community called Rhize, where job seekers share tips and support.
During a Slack call, a former HR recruiter advised structuring the week by posting job ads on Monday, reviewing applications on Tuesday, and setting up interviews on Wednesday and Thursday. If needed, she reposted job ads on Friday.
Ventola adopted this strategy, power applying to jobs on Monday, taking a break midweek, and reviewing reposts on Friday. She shared on TikTok, "This tangible advice has been game-changing. Managing your own schedule and feeling productive can really boost your mental health."
