A messenger, in banking parlance, typically deposits vouchers and segregates notes among other things. "A messenger's job is a high-pressure job. In our branch, we cannot operate without him," said an official of another SBI branch.

Ramchandra Paswan died due to suffocation as he was standing in a crushing queue for more than four hours to exchange his old currency notes at a State Bank of India branch in Mohammadganj, Palamau district, on Wednesday. When he collapsed, he was taken to a hospital where doctors declared him dead.

20-year-old Lavkush died on Tuesday night as the economic condition of the family was not good and his father, a daily wage worker, was unable to get work due to demonetisation, which has caused trash cash and cash crunch.

45-year-old farmer Balaiah allegedly mixed pesticide in chicken curry and chapatis, which he ate at their residence in Dharmaram village, police said. He was reportedly worried over "fall" in the rate of his land in the wake of demonetisation of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes.

Balaiah's shared his last meal with his father, 65-year-old Galaiah, wife Lakshmi and son Prashant, a B.Tech student. ?The farmer had taken loans and in view of the sudden fall in the market rates of land he got worried about how to pay back the debts and discussed the same with his father last night before resorting to the extreme step, he said quoting the complaint lodged by the 16-year-old daughter of the deceased.

48-year-old Saud Ur Rehman, an Old Delhi resident died after he suffered a heart attack while standing in line for over eight hours to exchange now-defunct notes for new ones at a queue outside a bank in Lal Kuan. He was rushed to Lok Nayak Jai Prakash Narayan Hospital where he died.????????

A resident of Railway Colony in Secunderabad, he had gone to deposit Rs.1.7 lakh in scrapped currency notes of Rs 500 and 1,000.

60-year-old Aziz Ansari collapsed and died while standing in a queue at a bank branch. His family claimed that this was the third day that Ansari had been waiting at the bank to get his notes exchanged.

Shekih Chanda Khatun, the 50-year-old mother of three committed suicide in stress as provision and kirana shops refused to accept her demonetized Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes.

A 45-year-old farmer allegedly committed suicide as he was apparently upset over not being able to get his high-denomination notes exchanged for fresh ones due to serpentine queues in banks. The farmer Ravi Pradhan's wife Pushplata claimed that he was in urgent need of money to help their two sons who were in Tamil Nadu, but was facing inconvenience after old high currency (Rs 500 and Rs 1,000) notes were banned. "Pradhan's body was found hanging at his house in Maharajpur village under Saria development block on November 12 a night," Sarangarh Sub-Divisional Officer of Police (SDOP) Junas Bada said.

A newborn infant boy died a day after being denied treatment by Jeevan Jyot Hospital and Nursing Home in Govandi because his parents wanted to pay a part of the deposit in Rs 500 currency notes, which ceased to be legal tender starting Tuesday midnight.

A senior citizen standing in a queue outside a co-operative bank into exchange defunct currency reportedly collapsed after suffering a cardiac stroke. Deepak Shah (60), a resident of Shreepal Building, Devchand Nagar, Bhayander (west) went to the Bassein Catholic Co-operative Bank to exchange Rs 500 and Rs 1000 notes. As he stood in the queue at around 7 am, he complained of pain in the chest and collapsed on the road. A few men waiting in the queue took him to a nearby hospital where he was declared dead.

A 69-year-old retired man died after suffering a heart attack while standing in a queue for the exchange of demonetised currency notes outside a bank, police said. "We got the information that an old man (Vinay Kumar Pandey) suffered a heart attack while he was standing in a queue outside a bank to exchange his demonetised notes. He was rushed to a private hospital where he died later during treatment," Police Inspector V S Chauhan said.

A 96-year-old man died of a spike in blood pressure on Saturday at a bank in Ajekar, Udupi district, where he had gone to get his Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 notes exchanged. While waiting in line, he collapsed, and the people at the bank rushed him to the Primary Health Centre. He was subsequently shifted to a private hospital in Karkala, where the doctors declared him 'dead on arrival'.

A 47-year-old farmer on Saturday died after suffering a heart attack while he was standing in a queue for more than two hours outside a bank at Tarapur town in the district to exchange demonetised currency notes, police said. "Barkat Sheikh died due to a heart attack when he was standing in a queue at the Corporation Bank branch to exchange his demonetised notes," Tarapur police inspector K C Rathwa said.

A few days ago, the family had sold their 12-acre agricultural land for Rs 56.40 lakh to meet expenses for the treatment of Vinoda's ailing husband.

31. Kaimur district, Bihar
Ram Awadh Sah, the father of a daughter to be married, was so stressed out by the uncertainty of not knowing whether the bridegroom's parents would accept the promised dowry of Rs 35,000 in scrapped notes that he had a massive stroke. When his wife rushed him to the nearest hospital, the treatment was delayed because the doctors told her they could not accept the scrapped 500 and 1,000-rupee notes and Sah collapsed and died.

53-year-old a bank peon Tukaram Genu Tanpure succumbed to a massive cardiac arrest at an SBI branch. Tanpure had reportedly complained of chest pains after the branch was crowded, stressing out bank employees.

23-year-old Prajapat, standing in a queue at the bank to exchange old currency notes died of cardiac arrest after he was unable to find additional documentation to complete the process. He died while rushing home from the bank to get his Aadhar card, ID proof for the transaction. Prajapat needed to exchange old Rs. 500 currency notes to buy essential goods for his family.

70-year-old farmer Halke Lodhi allegedly committed suicide after being unable to get money from a bank for his crops. "Had he got money from the bank in exchange of his old notes, he would not have committed suicide," Bhupendra Lodhi, a relative of the deceased farmer Halke Lodhi told the Hindustan Times.

A 20-year-old woman committed suicide allegedly by hanging herself from a ceiling of her house as she did not have valid currency for her treatment, police said today. Shabana committed suicide yesterday allegedly by hanging from the ceiling as there was no valid currency available at her home and Mobin, her brother, was standing in a queue to get the currency exchanged, SHO Anuradha Singhal said. The incident came to light when her brother returned home, without getting the currency exchanged, and found her hanging, she said.
