The bruised body of 15-year-old Keeling was discovered on Anjuna beach shore on 19 February 2008. Even though initially it was dismissed as an accident, the case was reopened due to the efforts of her mother.
CBI which later took over the probe had claimed that the two accused had drugged and raped her before leaving her in the shallow waters resulting in the death. The case had generated a lot of international attention due to the outburst of her mother's outburst against the government and safety of the tourists in Goa.?
