Shocking details continue to emerge about the rampant sexual abuse in the Malayalam film industry, which began tumbling out following the release of the Hema Commission report. The latest allegations to surface are against Mansoor Rasheed, the Assistant Director of Bro Daddy, a 2022 film starring Mohanlal and Prithviraj Sukumaran in lead roles. The movie was directed by Prithviraj, and Rasheed was his assistant director.
A junior artist who had worked in the film accused Rasheed of sexually assaulting her during the shoot of Bro Daddy in Hyderabad in 2021.
In her complaint, filed on Friday, the junior artist alleged that Rasheed had spiked her drink and sexually assaulted her in a hotel where the Bro Daddy crew was lodged.
The complainant further alleged that Rasheed also used explicit photos of her to blackmail and silence her. The complainant, who is settled in Hyderabad with her family, claimed that though a police complaint was filed, no action was taken against Rasheed.

She also pointed out that Rasheed continued to work with Prithviraj even after the incident and was the assistant director of L2: Empuraan, an upcoming Malayalam movie. Empuraan, which is the sequel to Prithviraj's directorial debut movie Lucifer, has himself and Mohanlal in key roles.
Breaking his silence on the allegations against Rasheed, Prithviraj on Friday said he came to know about it during Empuraan's shooting. Prithviraj further said that immediately after learning about it, Rasheed was removed as the assistant director of Empuraan and that he instructed him to present himself before the police.
Notably, Prithviraj was one of the vocal supporters of the Malayalam actress who was sexually abused in 2017. Even after the release of the Hema Committee report, Prithviraj had called for an investigation into the allegations.
"If allegations have been made, thorough investigations need to be followed up with, and if these investigations lead to the allegation being proven right, there have to be exemplary punishments handed out," he had said.
