The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board (GSHSEB) has been left red-faced after it emerged that a student scored 100/100 in the board exam because he gave the marks for himself.
What was more embarrassing was that the teacher who checked the paper failed to notice what the student had done with his exam paper.

Harshad Sarvaiya wrote his Class XII exams like all other students. But he had done something additional, he checked it with red ink, giving himself full marks before submitting it to the supervisor.
He did this for two subjects, Economics and Geography. However an alert teacher who checked geography paper noticed this irregularity, it was somehow missed by the guy who examined his Economics paper.

"To avoid suspicion, the boy had not marked the total on the main page. But the group of seven teachers that was supposed to assess each question and put their signature should have spotted the anomaly. The teachers just did the total and endorsed the boy's paper assessment by putting 100/100 as final total,"said GSHSEB secretary (examination) G D Patel.
He was caught by the board's software which finally spotted the irregularly in his marks. ?
The board said this is the first time such an incident has been reported and a case will be filed against the boy. He could also be debarred from appearing in exams if found guilty.
