In the 2025 IPL Mega Auction held in Jeddah, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi from Bihar made history as the youngest player ever bought, securing a Rs 1.10 crore deal with Rajasthan Royals. However, his remarkable achievement has been overshadowed by allegations of age fraud.
As soon as Vaibhav Suryavanshi made history, securing a Rs 1.10 crore deal with Rajasthan Royals, allegations of age fraud began circulating, with many claiming that the young star was actually 15 years old, not 13.?
Addressing these accusations, Vaibhav's father, Sanjiv Suryavanshi, told news agency PTI, "When he was 8 and a half years old, he first appeared for a BCCI bone test. He has already played for India U-19. We don't fear anyone. He can undergo the age test again."
Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a promising left-handed cricketer from Bihar, was born on March 27, 2011, in Tajpur village and began his cricket journey at the age of nine.
He had a base price of Rs 30 lakh for the IPL auction, and was ultimately bought for over Rs. 1 crore.
In January 2024, Vaibhav had made his first-class debut for Bihar at just 12 years and 384 days old, making him the fourth-youngest player in the history of the Ranji Trophy.
Having played five first-class matches, he's already made a mark with a total of 100 runs at an impressive strike rate of 63.29.?
In September, Vaibhav was part of the India U-19 squad against Australia, where he scored a 58-ball century in the first Youth Test, making him the youngest ever to score an international century.?
Now, he's all set to play in the upcoming U-19 Asia Cup, which will be held in the UAE from November 29 to December 8.
His future certainly looks promising, as the young talent is now set to represent Rajasthan Royals, under the guidance of coach Rahul Dravid.
