It is the first week of 2025, and billions of people around the world are looking forward to a happy, healthy, and prosperous New Year. But China, it seems, has other plans for the world in 2025.
A reported mass outbreak of Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in China has cast fears around the world about another COVID-19-like pandemic.
Though there are no indications of HMPV becoming a global threat, many are drawing parallels between it and the outbreak of COVID-19 that originated in China in late 2019 and spread across the world in the first months of 2020.
Meanwhile, on social media, an old post has resurfaced, where Anirudh Kumar Mishra, an Indian astrologer, predicted another pandemic in 2025.
In a post on X on August 9, 2022, Mishra said, "A new pandemic will strike in April 2025 which will turn most of the world's population into vegetarians. Its carnage will prevail for 4 years and 5 months before it is brought under control."
But in a November 2023 prediction, Mishra said, "China will have to face a new disease next year, transmitted from animals to humans. However, it will be limited to mainly China."
As scary as it might sound, it should be noted that Mishra, who claims to be a Vedic astrologer, does not have a clean record when it comes to accurately predicting future events.
While he has made some accurate predictions in the past, including India winning the 2011 ODI World Cup, the Ayodhya verdict, Article 370, and Trump's return to the White House, Mishra got it wrong on many occasions as well.
This includes India winning the World Cup in 2023, no Russia-Ukraine war, and Devendra Fadnavis winning the trust vote in 2019.
