The Jind district administration in Haryana has sealed up the village of Shadipur in Julana after 24 residents tested positive for COVID-19, as per a TOI report. It seems one villager came from a wedding in Gurugram on July 8 and smoked hookah with friends that spread the virus. The other 23 came into contact with him. The panchayat right now has banned hookah in the village.?
District health department officials took action when he tested positive and got his ¡®hookah pals¡¯ tested. The villagers have formed a committee to check hookah smoking along with starting a a sanitisation drive.?
¡°When the COVID-19 cases suddenly increased in the village, we found hookah to be a major source of transmission of the virus. Hookah smoking is a common practice in villages and has to be avoided to check the COVID-19 outbreak,¡± Jind civil hospital senior medical officer Gopal Goyal told TOI.?
Station house officer of Julana police station, Surender Singh said, "We have sealed the containment zone as 24 people have been reported coronavirus positive within a week.¡±?
Deputy civil surgeon Pale Ram Kataria said, ¡°Some people who came for sampling from this village, told us that they used to smoke hookah with others.¡±
As of now over 18 lakh in India are affected by COVID-19 with nearly 40,000 deaths. Over 12 lakh have recovered.
