The news about the death of Nithin Chandran came as a shock to the Indian community in the UAE, on Monday.The 28-year-old mechanical engineer died in sleep, possibly due to a heart attack.?
According to his friends, Nithin who was active in charity activities among the Indian community and as a member of the Blood Donors Kerala-UAE chapter and the youth wing of expat organisation Incas, was at the forefront of arranging blood donation for those in need and was involved in even hours before his death.?
Nithin, a native of Perambra in Kozhikode died a month after his wife, Athira Geetha Sreedharan was repatriated on the first Vande Bharath flight.Athira who was pregnant and is expecting her first child in July had moved the Supreme Court in May for the early repatriation of people like her.?
On Tuesday, Athira who has not been told about Nithin's death gave birth to a baby girl.?
Though the case did not yield the desired result, the Indian Consulate in the UAE had put them on a priority list and the couple was allocated seats on the first Vande Bharat mission flight on May 7 from UAE to Kerala.Nithin, who was also set to travel with his pregnant wife, backed out at the last moment so that another person who as in need could travel back home.?
Though the exact reason for his death is still unclear, it is reported that he was undergoing treatment for high blood pressure and had a heart condition. He is suspected to have died of a cardiac arrest in his sleep.?
¡°We got to know about this from one of his friends, Praveen, who had moved into Nithin¡¯s apartment just a couple of days as he was alone after Athira went home,¡± Bibin Jacob, a friend of Nithin told Gulf News.?
¡°Nithin worked a lot for the community, especially arranging blood donation camps and volunteering during the COVID situation. I give my sincere condolences to the family and hope that they are able to withstand this big and untimely loss,¡± Consul General of India in Dubai Vipul told Gulf News.?
¡°He had arranged some people to donate blood in his hometown even today. He had helped save many lives in Kerala and here. It is very tragic that he died without getting help,¡± a friend said.?
Even on his last Facebook post on June 7, Nithin had expressed his frustration over the lack of repatriation attempts and how, many people including pregnant women, those with medical conditions and those who have lost their jobs are struggling there.
