To avoid such accidents, the Assam government is deciding to set up 24x7 control rooms that would keep a check on the herds crossing the tracks. A forest department also told Indian Express that a workshop for railway engine drivers would also be organized to inform them about elephant movement.
Since the elephants roam in search of food and water, they come across railway tracks too. Due to the lack of elephant corridors, the elephants roam around anywhere they find a patch of green and water. Experts are asking the government to carry on an investigation regarding the assessment of elephant corridors. Despite 27 elephant corridors already existing in Assam, the herds are crossing the tracks for food and water.?
