Sweets were also exchanged between BSF and Pakistani Rangers at Mendhar-Hotspring check post in Jammu region. Both the sides on the occasion also reiterated their resolve to ensure peace along the border.
A senior official said that on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr, the tradition of exchanging sweets between India and Pakistan on major festivals like Eid, Holi, Diwali, and others was revived and a meeting was held at the historic Teethwal crossing on Kishanganga river to exchange sweets and pleasantries.
However, on the occasion of Republic Day this year, the BSF did not exchange sweets with Pakistani troops. The customary exchange this year will not take place as the situation with Pakistan is not conducive, BSF IG NS Jamwal had said.
The BSF's decision had come after Pakistan's attempts to push terrorists along the borders. With this decision, the BSF slammed Pakistan and indicated that terrorism and friendship will not go hand in hand.
