Noted surgeon and a senior medical professional who was at the forefront of Indore's battle against COVID-19 has lost his life to the infection.Dr. Ajay Joshi died due to COVID-19 at the Choithram Hospital in the wee hours of Tuesday.?
Joshi, who was working at Index Medical College, was getting treatment for the disease for the last 16 days at Choithram Hospital.57-year-old Joshi had treated hundreds of COVID-19 patients so far, in Madhya Pradesh's worst-affected city before he was tested positive.?
3 other doctors and eight nurses from the hospital have tested positive for coronavirus so far.One of the infected doctors is currently undergoing treatment, while others have recovered.?
According to the doctors at the Choithram Hospital, Dr. Joshi was shifted to the ICU on May 29 and his condition kept deteriorating.He had multiple comorbidities, including diabetes, hypertension, chronic kidney disease, equine pancreatitis and had undergone a bypass surgery 15 years ago. Despite the best efforts of the doctors, he died at 2.35am on Tuesday.?
"Our superintendent Ajay Joshi was the team leader of the institution for the last two months. He encouraged everyone to help administration to combat COVID-19. For the last 16 days, he was infected with coronavirus infection. He passed away. We will continue to provide our services," Dr Deepti Singh, COVID coordinator, Index Medical College told ANI.?
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan condoled the death of "corona warrior" Dr Joshi and said, "Dr Ajay Joshi of Indore's Index Medical College contracted the virus while serving other infected patients. His untimely death saddens me. May God give strength to the family and peace to the departed soul," Chouhan said in a tweet.?
Dr. Joshi is the fourth doctor from Indore to die of COVID-19.Earlier, three doctors, Dr. Shatrughan Panjwani, Ayurveda doctor Om Prakash Chauhan, and private practitioner and general physician Dr. BK Sharma, had died after testing positive for the virus.?
Meanwhile, a health department official said the number of COVID-19 cases in the district has gone up to 3,830, after 45 more people tested positive for the disease in the last 24 hours.So far, 2,566 patients have been discharged after recovery, he said.?
The official also said that following the death of the two more persons, including a 72-year-old woman, the district's toll has gone up to 159.The woman died at a private hospital on May 14, but the health department shared details of her death after 25 days.
