Due to COVID, school lessons are now being imparted through online classes. But of the 42 lakh students in Jharkhand, only 33% have access to Whatsapp. But the government has come up with a solution.
According to The New Indian Express, government school teachers shall now 'adopt' students. Basically, they will visit students who have no access to internet or smartphones on a weekly basis to provide education at the front door.?
They shall also personally guide these students so that they do not fall behind the rest of the group who are getting regular online classes. In fact, some schools in villages like Dumka and Jamtara are already doing it.?
¡°Talks are on the concept of ¡®mohalla class¡¯ under which teachers weekly hold classes with small groups of students every week,¡± said an official.?
¡°In Dumka itself, more than 500 schools have been holding such classes at different locations in small groups following social distancing norms,¡± said Sham Kishore Gandhi, principal of Bankathi Utkramit Madhya Vidyalaya.?
This is a good initiative and it ensures that students get the necessary study material and their classes are in no way affected. Teachers are dedicated to getting the job done and it is a nice way to implement this.?
COVID has held the world ransom for over 6 months and in a country like India where education is not readily available to everyone especially in rural areas, such a venture can only do good. ?
