Kanpur Metro expansion to begin soon: IIT to Central Station in 14 mins—Check travel time, fares & stations

Kanpur Metro: Kanpur Metro is set to expand, making travel easier and faster for commuters. The new metro route from IIT Kanpur to Central Station will reduce travel time to just 14 minutes. The metro will run every 5–6 minutes, ensuring smooth connectivity to key areas like Motijheel, Kachheri, major markets, hospitals, and educational institutions.?

There will be 14 stations along the route, including both elevated and underground sections. Passengers will enjoy a comfortable and air-conditioned journey at affordable fares. The service will begin once the Metro Rail Safety Commissioner gives final approval.

The entire Phase 1 of the Kanpur Metro involves two corridors: the Orange Line (23.8 km) and the Blue Line (8.6 km). Trial runs for the remaining sections are scheduled for early 2025, with the extension to Naubasta expected to become operational by mid-2025. Earlier, PM Narendra Modi had inaugurated the IIT-Motijheel metro part on 28th December 2021 itself. This metro segment was completed in an exact 2 years and 2.5 months only. As of now, the Chunniganj-Naubasta section of Corridor 1 and the 8.60 km Corridor 2 (CSA-Barra 8) are in the construction process.
