In a bid to encourage voters, especially the youth who are voting for the first time in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections 2024, Air India Express has announced a discount for them on air tickets.?The low-cost subsidiary of Air India is offering a 19% discount on base fares across its network for first-time voters aged 18 to 22 who have to travel back to their hometowns to cast their ballots.
According to Air India Express, the initiative is part of its 'Vote As You Are' campaign which also coincides with the upcoming 19th anniversary of the airline.
"Air India Express has always?served as a catalyst for?change - uniting people, places, and cultures across borders. As we gear up for our 19th anniversary, #VoteAsYouAre symbolizes our commitment to empowering and galvanizing the youth in shaping the future of our nation while fostering a culture of active citizenship and democratic participation,"?Dr. Ankur Garg, Chief Commercial Officer of Air India Express, said.
According to Air India Express, young voters can avail of the offer on both economy and business class seats.
Air India Express which launched its operations on 29?April 2005, currently has flights servicing 31 destinations across India.
Following its acquisition by the Tata Group, which also operated another budget carrier, AirAsia India, the two airlines were merged into Air India Express.
While Air India Express could be the first airline to offer a discount to voters, this is not the first time private companies and businesses have gone out of their way to encourage people to vote.
This includes fuel pumps that offered discounts on petrol and diesel for anyone with?the indelible?ink on their fingers and eateries that provided free food on showing the same.
