If Mysuru was still a princely state Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar would have been its king. But the 32-year-old patriarch of the erstwhile Mysuru royal family doesn't even own a house, let alone have a kingdom to rule over.
Wadiyar who is the BJP candidate from the Mysuru Lok Sabha seat also doesn't have a car or land in his name.
According to Wadiyar's election affidavit, declaring his assets and liabilities, he has total assets of about Rs five crore.
His wife Trishika Kumari Wadiyar and a dependent person own assets worth Rs 1.04 crore and Rs 3.64 crore respectively.
Wadiyar owns gold and silver jewels worth Rs 3.39 crore while his wife possesses precious metals worth Rs 1.02 crore.
Neither Wadiyar nor his wife has immovable properties such as agricultural land, non-agricultural land, or residential and commercial buildings as per the affidavit.
While Wadiyar may not have a house or car of his own, the erstwhile royals of Mysuru are still one of the wealthiest in India. According to some estimates the Wadiyar family owns assets worth anywhere from Rs 80,000 crore to Rs 100,000 crore.
It should be noted that he was born Yaduveer Gopal Raj Urs and was adopted by Pramoda Devi Wadiyar, the widow of Srikantadatta Narasimharaja Wadiyar, the last descendant of the Wadiyar dynasty as they did not have any children.
In 2004 when Srikantadatta Wadiyar contested the Lok Sabha elections on a Congress ticket from the same seat, he had declared assets worth Rs 1,522.53 crore, making him perhaps the wealthiest candidate fighting the Lok Sabha elections.
His assets included the famous Mysore and Bangalore palaces, the Lokaranjan Mahal located on 30 acres in Mysore, Rajendra Vilas Palace atop Chamundi Hills and the Fernhill Palace in Ooty.
He also owned other properties including the Gun House in Mysore, Surabhi Diary and Annexe, Chaitanya Hall, Manjunath Packing Products and Regency rooms in Mysore.
