Voters queued up at a polling booth in Wardha district of Maharashtra for the second phase of the Lok Sabha Elections on Friday were in for a surprise when they saw a man casually carrying a langur on his shoulder joining them to vote. The man, later identified as Vinod?Kshirsagar?introduced his pet langur as?¡®Bajrang¡¯.
In a video shared by ANI, Kshirsagar?can?be seen?walking on the streets with his pet on his shoulder, like it?wasn't?a big deal. The animal?too?looked?perfectly at ease on?Kshirsagar's?shoulder as he walked past curious onlookers.
Kshirsagar later revealed the story behind his unusual friendship with a langur. According to Kshirsagar, he found the langur in an injured condition and rescued it.
"It has been with me for the past?3?months. Stray dogs had attacked it?and?it received?3?stitches. It?doesn't?go to anyone else but?just?stays with me wherever I go...So, it accompanied me in voting too,"?Kshirsagar told ANI.
He further said that the langur is now like his child.?"It is like my child. It?didn't?disturb anyone,"?Kshirsagar?said.?
Many on social media appreciate his compassion towards fellow creatures. Some also expressed hope that Kshirsagar?won't?face the fate of Arif Khan Gurjar, a man from UP whose friendship with a Sarus crane has melted hearts. An injured Sarus crane that Gurjar had rescued?and looked after for a year?was taken?by the Forest Department.
Similarly, Indian gray langurs (Semnopithecus ajax)?are protected?under Schedule II of the Wildlife Protection Act, 1972, and it is illegal to keep them in captivity as pets. Doing so is a crime punishable by up to seven years?in prison?and a fine of at least Rs 10,000.
