Voting for Phase 5 of the Lok Sabha elections began at 7 am on Monday, May 20, 2024. This phase covers 49 seats across six states and two union territories. Over 8.95 crore voters are eligible to participate today, comprising 4.69 crore men, 4.26 crore women, and 5,409 third-gender electors, with a total of 695 candidates competing for the seats in this round.
With today's voting, more than three-fourths of the 543 Lok Sabha seats (428 seats) will be decided by the end of Phase 5. After this phase, the election will proceed with two remaining phases: Phase 6 on May 25 and Phase 7 on June 1.?
The counting of votes will take place on June 4.

The states participating in this round are Uttar Pradesh (14 seats), Maharashtra (13), West Bengal (7), Bihar (5), Odisha (5), and Jharkhand (3). Additionally, one seat each in the Union Territories of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh is also up for election.
Alongside the Lok Sabha elections, 35 assembly constituencies in Odisha are voting today as well.
Google has marked the occasion with a doodle on its India homepage, encouraging people to vote.

The main candidates in this phase are Rahul Gandhi (Rae Bareli, UP), Smriti Irani (Amethi, UP), Rajnath Singh (Lucknow, UP), Karan Bhushan Singh (Kaiserganj, UP), Rohini Acharya (Saran, Bihar), Chirag Paswan (Hajipur, Bihar), Piyush Goyal (Mumbai North), Ujjwal Nikam (Mumbai North-Central), and Omar Abdullah (Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir).
