Lok Sabha Elections 2024: With just days remaining until the initiation of the Lok Sabha elections, posters alleging corruption by the Prime Minister Narendra Modi-led government at the Centre have appeared in various locations across Tamil Nadu.
The posters feature a barcode and carry the inscription, 'scan the code and uncover the scams.' Positioned at the top is the phrase 'Ji PAY'.
Upon scanning the code, individuals are directed to a video. In the video, a speaker elucidates the BJP's purported involvement in corruption via electoral bonds and malfeasance in infrastructure projects, among other allegations.
The video concludes by urging voters to reject the BJP and lend their support to the INDIA bloc. According to reports, the posters were affixed by DMK functionaries.
Notably, in September 2022, before the Karnataka Assembly elections, the Congress party ran a PayCM campaign accusing the then Chief Minister of the BJP government,?
Vasavaraj Bommai, of involvement in corruption. In this campaign, a QR code was placed containing the photo of Karnataka's then Chief Minister Bommai, similar to PayTM. Upon scanning the QR code, the website of Congress's '40 percent government' would open.??
During the historic 2019 elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) secured a significant triumph with 303 seats, while its coalition, the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), amassed 352 seats.
As India braces itself for the pivotal 2024 elections, there appears to be a noticeable shift in the political panorama. The Indian National Congress, spearheading a coalition of over two dozen parties known as the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (or "India" for short), emerges as a primary contender.
Key personalities within this alliance encompass Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, alongside siblings Rahul and Priyanka Gandhi, carrying forward their father's legacy, former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi.
Voting is slated to take place across the nation on seven polling days: April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, May 20, May 25, and June 1. The results are scheduled to be announced on June 4.
