In Chhattisgarh's Rajnandgaon district, birdwatchers are in for a delight as they are witnessing a rare sighting of migratory birds from the Eurosiberian region.
These birds are flocking the water body between Dongarhgarh and Khairagarh, about 90 km west of Raipur.
Ornithologists say Eurasian Spoonbill, Painted Storks, Red Crested Pochard, Northern Pintail, Common Teal, Peregrine Falcon, Black Headed Gull, Common Pochard, cranes and few other birds are present in this part of India for the first time.
Ravi Naidu, an expert on birds and their population, told The New Indian Express, that these birds are seen for the first time in the state.
A Mandarin duck made a rare appearance in Assam's Tinsukia district last week. The bird has returned to the wetland after almost 120 years. It was last seen in this part of Assam all the way back in 1902.
The Mandarin duck (Aix galericulata), often described as 'the most beautiful duck in the world', was first discovered and logged by Swedish botanist, physician and zoologist Carl Linnaeus in 1758.
